How the consistency rule works
What is a consistency rule?
Many prop firms cap how much of your total profit can come from a single trading day. With a 30% rule, if you've made $10,000 in total, no single day can account for more than $3,000. It stops traders from passing on one lucky outsized day.
How is it calculated?
Best day share = your largest single-day profit ÷ your total profit. If that share is above the firm's limit, you keep trading until your total is large enough: best day ÷ rule %. For example, a $1,500 best day under a 30% rule needs $5,000 in total profit.
Net P&L or winning days only?
Most firms divide by net profit, so losing days make the rule harder to meet. A few divide by the sum of winning days only. Toggle the setting to match your firm's wording.
What does "biggest next day" mean?
It's the most you can make on your next trading day without that day becoming a new best day that breaks the rule. Useful for knowing when to stop trading for the day.
